What's different about trust accounting in Western Australia
Trust accounting rules are set state by state, and the differences are more than cosmetic — they change when money has to move and when reports fall due. Here's what WA asks of you.

Western Australia is the outlier on timing. Real estate agents audit their trust accounts on the calendar year to 31 December, with the report due by 31 March — not the 30 June year used across most of the country. Settlement agents in WA do work to a 30 June year, which adds to the confusion for anyone holding both licences. Extensions exist, but the request has to be made and approved before the 31 March deadline, so an auditor running late is not a defence.
